Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Alice Cooper is the previous owner of this captivating black-on-black Corvette powered Studebaker Avanti mild custom coupe. The exterior condition is excellent, with no dings, dents, damage or scratches. The paint is smooth, with a nice deep shine.

The impeccable interior is ultra-stylish 60’s cool - and the car was a favorite of Alice Cooper and driven and well cared for by him. It’s been freshened with new Autometer gauges and a new Lokar shifter. The wiring has been checked and there is a new harness due to the engine swap. All of the lighting and gauges work and there is an auxiliary water temperature gauge for some extra insurance. The freshly serviced Vintage Air conditioning blows ice cold. A Kenwood head unit CD player and 2 speakers provide the tunes.

The Corvette LT-1 engine has been tuned by Arizona TPI and produces 320-hp, enough to make this a true burnout machine. The exhaust has a deep growl that, along with the 19” Konig Black spoke rims, let people know that this is a very special Avanti.

The car drives better than new thanks to the tasteful and effective modifications and modernizations. The only condition issue on this example is some small surface rust where the chrome has peeled on the bumpers. Only 4,643 Avanti’s were produced between June of 1962 and December of 1963 at the Studebaker factory in South Bend, Indiana.

The Avanti lives up to its name (meaning “forward” in Italian) by introducing several safety advancements and a radical design that incorporated a fiberglass body. Some of the innovations found in the Avanti were seatbelts, safety door latches and a roll-over protection bar. While Jaguar began offering production-car disc brakes in 1957 on the XK150, the Avanti was one of the first American cars to feature standard disc brakes. The Avanti has survived failure after failure of its host companies and has achieved cult status, maintaining a loyal customer base large enough to support production as a luxury specialty car on and off for more than 45 years.
