Description
This Jaguar E-Type roadster is commonly referred to as a Series 1.5 because it retains the same body and bumpers as the Series 1 car but has some Series 2 items such as rocker switches, twin Stromberg carburetors, finned cam covers and in improved cooling system with a larger radiator and twin electric fans. While it does not have covered headlights this body can be retrofited with them if desired.
We are the third owner of the car. The car was purchased new at Sunnyvale British Motor Cars in California and the first owner kept the car in Fremont CA. until 1977 when he sold it at 20,050 miles. The car had been stored from 1973-1977. The car went to Coburg, Oregon where it was recommissioned and shown at some local venues but mostly stayed in the garage.
A long time friend of ours at the Sports Car Shop in Eugene, Oregon had done a little bit of work on the car and told us about the car. We acquired the car in 2005 at just 23,577 miles. Over the past five years, we've driven the car just 1,139 miles.
The car is amazingly tight and drives as you would expect a car with this mileage to drive with great power, and oil pressure. The suspension and brakes are both great and this is really an enjoyable car to drive.
The car has never shown any rust – just nice and dry. We have a pile of receipts showing the work done to the car over the years including receipts that show some areas of the car had some small dents repaired and spot painted with lacquer.
While the paint looked pretty nice, there were some differences between the original paint and the touched up areas. So, we decided to have our shop do a complete tear down, repaint and reassembly of the car with new mouldings. Now the paint is stunning, the original chrome and glass are all very nice. It still has the original factory delivery stickers on the windshield including the Queens Export Award dated 1967.
The original seats were pretty decent but there was some wear on the back of the drivers seat from the top frame being drug across it (common error). We had new leather seat covers installed but the rest of the interior is original to the car. The original jack and tool bag are with the car as well as the owners manual and service booklet.
