Description
Brighton Motorsports is pleased to present this beautiful 1955 Ford Thunderbird Roadster.
Designed as a direct response to the 1953 Corvette, Ford went from idea to Thunderbird prototype in about a year, unveiling it at the Detroit Auto Show on Feb 20th, 1954. Production followed in Sept 1954, and sales began on Oct. 22, 1954 as a 1955 model.
The 1955 Thunderbird was a huge success, at 16,155 units produced; it outsold the Corvette by more than 23:1.
Ford decided to focus more on luxury than performance, and thus mapped out unexplored territory by creating an entirely new motoring concept – the Personal Luxury Car.
This timeless American classic has been repainted in its original Red color. The interior is nicely detailed in Red and White vinyl.
Underneath the factory hardtop is a white vinyl soft top.
The 292ci V8 engine starts easily, and quickly warms up to a nice smooth idle. Performance is very snappy, with plenty of power, it easily accelerates to modern highway speeds, and is comfortably geared for cruising, pulling 2,500 rpm at 60mph indicated.
The gear changes are made by a 3 speed automatic that operates as it should. The car is fully optioned with power windows, 4-way power seats, air conditioning, power brakes and power steering. Tachometer, Speedometer and Clock work perfectly.
This first year Thunderbird is in great condition equipped with the most desirable color combination and is ready to enjoy for years to come.
